Grupo Arania wins the Dataton 2026 with Aratubo as a use case
The project promoted by Grupo Arania in the Dataton 2026, organised by BAIC – Basque Artificial Intelligence Center, was acknowledged as the best solution of this edition for its artificial intelligence based tool that takes on a real sustainability challenge: Smart Calculation of the Organisational Carbon Footprint – how to reduce the organisational carbon footprint effectively and measurably in industry.
The initiative was led by Ana Guinea, Sustainability Director at Grupo Arania, alongside Iker Seoane, Head of Sustainability at Aratubo, who defended the proposal before the judges, with collaboration from Inetum as a technological partner.
Aratubo was chosen as the use case for its ability to represent a real industrial setting, with replicable processes and casuistry, making it possible to validate a solution with potential for escalation to all companies in the Group. The objective was to develop an artificial intelligence based solution capable of simulating scenarios and facilitating carbon footprint optimisation in our sector.

Measuring is not enough: it’s the reduction that counts
For 72 hours, five companies and five technological partners competed in a highly technical environment. Here, our entry stood out for its ability to transform the complexity of emissions reduction into a tool that is practical understandable and oriented at decision-making.
The solution implemented makes it possible to simulate scenarios and view how different operational decisions affect the organisational carbon footprint in real time. The system uses artificial intelligence to generate predictive models and reports for audits, verifications and reports that facilitate the anticipation and optimisation of decarbonisation-related decisions. It is not focused on measuring more, but exercising judgement and offering a tool that effectively facilitates progress in decarbonisation processes for the companies in the sector.
This recognition reflects our commitment to innovation aimed at real challenges. It’s not just about adopting new technologies, but also integrating artificial intelligenceas a tool with impact: able to accelerate the transition to more sustainable models, improve efficiency in our processes and generate lasting value for the industrial sector. This project is just that: converting what we know how to do into solutions that generate real impact.
The future will belong to companies able to convert knowledge into a positive impact.
Iker Seoane, Head of Sustainability at Aratubo
Sustainability is our way of life
For Aratubo and Grupo Arania, sustainability is not an isolated initiative. It’s a way of life that puts people and their environment first in any decision, taking on the environmental commitments and maintaining the essence of our company: to last throughout time. A vision that appears in projects such as the Dataton, in our commitment to the continuous reduction of emissions and in our commitment to more responsible industrial models.
We would like to give special thanks to Iker Seoane, Ana Guinea and Grupo Arania for their involvement and dedication to the project, and acknowledge BAIC‘s work in organising the Dataton 2026, Inetum’s collaboration as a technological partner and the high technical level of other participating companies.
